* warning: may cause more Bucky feels.

Bucky Barnes had been on the run for 3 weeks now. He could have sworn that someone was after him. He couldn't take the chance of finding out, so he just kept running. After the events in D.C., he thought that he could hide somewhere were no one would find him. So he found a small town in Virginia were no one would think to look for him. He stayed there for six months as he tried to wrap his head around the fact that Steve was alive and that he had almost killed Steve in D.C. All Steve had tried to do was help him and Bucky had tried to kill him. Bucky couldn't stop thinking about what had happened. His thoughts were constantly haunted by what he had done. He had almost destroyed the last bit of family that he had in this world. He knew that it wasn't really him who did it. It was the brain-washed Winter Soldier that Hydra had controlled. But it still didn't help. His mind kept flashing back to those last moments on the helicarrier when Steve had said "cause I'm with you til the end of the line." Those words brought back a flood of memories. Bucky remembered who he was and who the man was that was in front of him. Bucky had started to get up to carry Steve to safety when, to his horror, everything started to fall apart and Steve fell, unconscious, into the water below. Bucky quickly dove into the water to save his long lost friend. He swam the best he could since his other arm had been injured in the fight. He finally reached Steve reached Steve and dragged him to the closest shore. After taking a moment to make sure that Steve was alive, Bucky ran. He didn't know what to expect when Steve woke up and he didn't want to find out. He ran due to the fear that he thought his best friend had given up on him.

After the first few months in the town, Bucky had started to gain back some of his old self. He had fewer nightmares about what he had done and he was starting to trust people again. He had even made a few friends in this new town. He had gotten a job and was even happy for the first time in years. He had even found a girlfriend, a beautiful girl with long brown hair and hazel eyes that sparkled when she laughed. He adored her and she was helping him adjust to his new life. Everything was going great until about three weeks ago. It had started when he noticed a strange car sitting in front of his house. At first he brushed it off but then he started seeing it everywhere. He saw it outside his work and even saw it following him anytime he went out. He knew he wasn't safe anymore so he bolted. He left that little town behind without so much as a word to anyone. He drove his little blue pickup truck as far as he could before he ran out of gas. So he walked to the nearest town and bought all the supplies he would need and started hiding in the woods. That was three weeks ago and now the person who was following him was getting close.

He had finally settled into his camp for the night when he heard the bushes shake a few feet from him. He drew his knife, a black k-bar, that was his only protection besides his fighting skills that were drilled into him.

"Instead of hiding, why don't you show yourself, you coward," Bucky said with a mix of fear and angry in his voice. Out of the bushes, stepped a tall African american man with short cut hair wearing an army green t-shirt and dark colored pants. Bucky could tell that he was once military just by the way the man carried himself. The man finally spoke after a long, awkward pause.

"My name is Sam Wilson. I'm a friend of Steve Rogers. We have actually met before, you kin of broke my wings in D.C., " Sam said, holding his hands up so Bucky could see that he was safe.

"What do you want?" Bucky growled.

"Steve and i have been trying to find you since D.C. He is worried about you and wants you to come to New York to stay in the Avengers tower.

"Why should I? After everything I did in D.C. there is now way I will be free when I get there. The government is probably hunting me."

"Steve already took care of that. As far as the government knows, the Winter Soldier is dead. So you can start over and you won't have to look your shoulder for the rest of your life. It you come with me, I can drive you to New York."

"Fine."

"Alright, gather your stuff."

Bucky quickly gathered his things and met Sam at the car. The car was a dark blue, 2002 Toyota Camry. It was nothing much but it was enough to get them to New York. They both got in and took off down the road.

Bucky wondered if this was a trap or if Steve really did want to see him. He also worried about how Steve would react when he got there. Was he the same Steve that cared for Bucky no matter what or had Steve changed and hated Bucky for what he did.

The drive to New York was filled with awkward silence. Every time Sam tried to talk to Bucky, he would just ignore Sam or say something that would keep Sam from speaking for awhile. Every time Sam would stop, Bucky refused food and stayed in the car wondering if he should get out of the car and run. Every time, he decided that what Steve had to say was more important than all of the fears that Bucky had about meeting his best friend again. Every time he refused food, he regretted it but he knew that he couldn't stomach anything due to his constant worrying about what Steve was going to say to him. Was he going to tell him to leave or tell him that if he ever saw his face again he would kill him? He didn't know and he just expected the worst.

Bucky had fallen asleep and was woken up when Sam started shaking him to let him know that they were here. He looked out the window to see a tall silver building that towered over the city. Bucky had never seen anything like it but his awe was quickly pushed away by the gnawing worry in his gut. There was no turning back now. He was finally going to find out what Steve had to say.

They were finally on the top floor of the building. Sam led him to a room and told him to sit in a chair and wait for Steve. Sam left Bucky alone with his thoughts in the nearly empty room. Bucky's heart started to race as his palms started to sweat. Thousands of questions started to race through his mind. Will he yell at me? Will he hit me? Will he try to kill me? If he did, I would deserve it   anyway after all the things i have done. He looked up when the door opened to reveal his best friend, Steve Rogers, standing in the doorway with a smile on his face. The smile caught Bucky off guard, because even though he trusted people more, he still did not expect kindness from anyone. After almost 70 years of cruelty, he was surprised that he even had any emotions left in him. Steve started towards him and stopped a few inches in front of Bucky. Bucky stood up and looked him in the eye. He couldn't tell what his best friend was thinking. Before he knew it, Bucky was wrapped in a hug. Bucky hesitantly returned the hug.

"Good to have you back, Buck," Steve said, his voice breaking.

"Good to be back."
